Questions to ask before you say yes

Can you do it yourself?

Cans of R-134a are common, but overfilling is easy and refrigerant is regulated; newer R-1234yf systems need shop equipment.

Common questions

Why is my A/C warm?

Low refrigerant from a slow leak is the most common cause. Other causes include a bad compressor or clutch.

Is a recharge a permanent fix?

If there's a leak, no. The refrigerant will escape again unless the leak is found and fixed.

Why does the newer refrigerant cost more?

Many cars made after about 2015 use R-1234yf, which costs far more per pound than older R-134a. It also needs different equipment to handle.

How much does a/c recharge cost?

A typical range across the US is $75 to $360. That is an estimate from parts prices, labor hours and the local labor rate, not a quote.
