Questions to ask before you say yes

Can you do it yourself?

A moderate DIY; wait for the engine to cool, and take care with transmission cooler lines on automatics.

Common questions

Can a radiator be repaired?

Small leaks may be patched, but most shops replace the radiator because repairs often don't last.

What causes a radiator to fail?

Age, rust inside from old coolant, road salt outside, and plastic end tanks that crack with heat cycles. A rock or fender bender can also puncture it.

Why is coolant added?

The old coolant drains out during the repair, and the new radiator needs fresh fluid with air bled out.
